More and more cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) were reported in Changsha, capital of Hunan province, with the number in the last week increasing 213.32 percent year-on-year, and 50.33 percent from the previous week, the Xinhua News Agency reported Wednesday.

Last week was the seventh consecutive week that the city's reported HFMD cases went up, Xinhua said, citing information from the Changsha City Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

Xie Qiangming, from the center, said the city's HFMD cases are rapidly increasing and there was a trend for more cluster outbreaks of the disease in child-care centers and kindergartens.

The peak time for HFMD outbreak is from May to July, and the city is likely to see more reported cases in May as it gets warmer.
