Hu Jintao meets Republic of Congo president

SHANGHAI - Chinese President Hu Jintao met with the Republic of Congo President Denis Sassou Nguesso here on Thursday.

Hu welcomed Nguesso to attend the opening ceremony of the Shanghai World Expo on behalf of the Chinese government and people and congratulated Nguesso on his winning of another term of presidency last year.

Hu also thanked Nguesso for sending a letter of condolence after a devastating quake jolting Qinghai Province in northwest China in mid-April.

The Chinese president said he expected to exchange views with Nguesso about bilateral issues and other issues of common concern.

Nguesso said Shanghai is his most favorite Chinese city, which he had visited many times since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1964. He thanked China for inviting him and his delegation to the important event.
