China's National Meteorological Center (NMC) has issued a yellow-coded heat alert for Sunday, warning a heatwave will continue in many parts of China for the next three days.
Maximum temperatures will climb to 35 to 37 degrees Celsius from Sunday to Tuesday in most areas south of the Yangtze River, including the provinces of Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Fujian and Guangdong, according to weather forecast released by NMC at 6 pm Saturday. [More]
Three dead in heat wave in Xinjiang
Sweltering temperatures have left three dead and 20 others hospitalized with heatstroke in Hami prefecture of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region in five days.
A local weather forecaster said the temperature in Yiwu county was 44.2 degree Celsius last Sunday and the ground temperature hit a scorching 72.4 degree Celsius.[More]
