Greece, China pledge to enhance bilateral relations

ATHENS - Greek Parliament President Philippos Petsalnikos on Thursday met with Chen Zhili, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, with both sides pledging to enhance bilateral relations and cooperation between the two parliaments.

Petsalnikos said that since Chinese President Hu Jintao's successful visit to Greece in 2008, the two countries accelerated the development of bilateral relations and fruitful cooperation in various fields.

He said "The Greek Parliament has set up a Greece-China Friendship Group, dedicated to promoting the pragmatic cooperation in various fields between the two countries. I believe with the joint efforts, the development of Greek-Chinese relations will get better and better."

Chen, who is visiting Greece for a UNESCO forum on gender equality in regards to the Millennium goals, said China and Greece have enjoyed long-time friendly relationship. In recent years, the two countries witnessed frequent high-level visits, further enhancing mutual political trust as well as the economic cooperation.

Chen said the two legislative bodies have also maintained close cooperation. China is willing to work together with Greece to deepen friendly cooperation in various fields, and promote the Sino-Greek relations to a new level.
