Wang Yi, director of Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks during a reception for a delegation from the World Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce (WTCC).

He thanked the WTCC for its contributions to the improvement of cross-Straits ties and hoped Taiwan compatriots living overseas would play a more active role in promoting the peaceful development of ties.

He said Taiwan compatriots living abroad were welcome to "come home often and take a look."

Wang said the improvement of cross-Straits relations was inevitable as the mainland and Taiwan had the same origins, culture, traditions and historical responsibilities.

The delegation is the first from the WTCC to the mainland.
