TAIYUAN - Two workers have been confirmed dead, one was rescued and hospitalized, and two others remain trapped in a landslide that engulfed a boiler house Wednesday in north Shanxi province, local officials said Thursday.
The accident happened at about 8 am in a coal mine in the town of Dawu in Luliang city.
The landslide unleashed 300,000 cubic meters of mud and rocks to push the boiler house some 20 meters away, trapping five workers, according to rescuers.
More than 400 rescuers continue to dig through the debris to retrieve the other two workers.
An initial investigation indicated that the landslide was triggered by heavy rainfall in the region, according to the rescue command center.
