China-Japan relations are not only bilateral but also have wide implications over regional and world affairs that demand a global perspective to develop ties, Tang Jiaxuan, former state councilor, said at the Beijing-Tokyo Forum in Beijing Sunday.
According to Tang, China's rise is an unstoppable trend as the country deepens reforms and transforms economic growth patterns during the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015). But China's growth will not pose threat to Japan or any other countries, instead China will bring opportunities, he said.
Japan has put emphasis on the green economy in its post-quake reconstruction plan and China aims to develop a low-carbon economy in the next five years, so there will be huge potential for cooperation and common ground for the two countries to complement each other's advantages.
The former foreign minister suggested four points to increase the relations between China and Japan - to increase political trust via dialogue and exchanges, to create new economic and trade cooperation, to further exchanges between people from the two countries with a focus on forming a mutual understanding between youths, and to prudently solve sensitive issues through talks.
"It should be a priority to increase the management mechanism of maritime risks in order to avoid accidents." Tang said. The Chinese government will send investment delegations to Japan at an appropriate time and seeks to cooperate in Japan's reconstruction of disaster-hit areas. China also welcomes investments from Japan amid China's economic restructuring.
Tang also said the news media plays a core role in enhancing bilateral relations.
"News media should provide positive, objective information to help people fully and accurately understand each other."
