BEIJING - Vice President Xi Jinping on Monday urged the international community to enhance macro-economic policy coordination to boost confidence in the tumbling world economy and finance market.

Xi made the remarks in a meeting with World Bank President Robert Zoellick, during which he also called on the international community to improve world economic governance via mechanisms like the Group of 20 (G20).

Xi briefed Zoellick on China's current economic and social policies, saying China will unswervingly further its drive at reform and opening-up, transform the economic growth mode, and promote more balanced, coordinated and sustainable social development.

Xi also hailed China's cooperation with the World Bank and the international body's role in promoting poverty-reduction and development in China and the world at large.

China will "stimulate World Bank's governance reform to enlarge involved developing countries' say and representation", Xi said.

Zoellick, who met with China's senior Cabinet members last week, pledged to further bilateral cooperation with China and continue to work with global poverty relief and development efforts.
