ZHENGZHOU - Police in central China's Henan Province announced on Wednesday that they have arrested two suspects in connection with the fatal stabbing of a TV journalist.

The Public Security Bureau in the city of Luoyang issued a notice saying the two suspects allegedly stabbed 30-year-old TV reporter Li Xiang to death at around 1 am on Sunday.

Over 80 police officers joined the investigation, and autopsy results show that Li died of hemorrhagic shock after being stabbed about 13 times.

"The investigation shows that the two suspects did not know the journalist Li beforehand, and they were not hired by others. The case involves a murder during a robbery," said Li Hongjiang, deputy director of the Public Security Bureau in Luoyang.

Both suspects, 24-year-old Li Junzhao and 28-year-old Zhang Xiaobo, are unemployed residents of a village near Luoyang. They were detained by police at a train station, preventing them from making an escape, Li said.

Witnesses said Li was walking home after parking his car when an unknown assailant stabbed him near the gate of his residential community.

The Zhengzhou Evening News reported that Li was stabbed over 10 times and that his laptop was also reported missing, but police have not confirmed the status of Li's laptop.

Further investigation is pending.
