ZHENGZHOU - Police in central China's Henan province said on Monday that they seized 190 million yuan ($29.9 million) in counterfeit drugs while investigating an illegal drug production and sale network.
The public security bureau in the city of Kaifeng said in a statement that it discovered the network with the help of clues found from a theft case in which a woman used fake medicine to replace genuine medicine while pretending to make a purchase at a drug store in April.
After a four-month investigation, authorities in Kaifeng stormed 117 counterfeit drug production and sales sites and arrested 114 members of the network, which was based in the city of Anyang.
In the crackdown, police seized over 65 million counterfeit medicine bottles.
Police are continuing to investigate the case.
