BEIJING - China urged the United States here on Friday to take concrete measures to ensure the safety of Chinese missions, institutions and personnel in the United States.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin made the remarks when asked about the recent shooting at the Chinese Consulate-General's building in Los Angeles.
A gunman fired a couple of shots at a downtown office building of the Chinese Consulate-General Thursday afternoon. No one was hurt in the incident.
Liu said China attaches great importance to the incident, calling on the US to solve the case as soon as possible.
The Chinese Embassy in the US and the consulate-general have made representations to the US side, Liu said.
The local police arrived on scene immediately after the shooting and the suspect has been arrested, Liu said, noting that the case remains under investigation.
