BEIJING - Senior leaders have warned that despite remarkable progress and achievements, members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) should keep sober-minded for the grim situation and arduous tasks in the country's anti-corruption drive.

Members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee met here Friday to discuss China's anti-graft cause in 2011, and to make plans for next year's battle against corruption.

Participants of the meeting heard a report by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI).

The CPC members should be fully aware of the Party's resolution to combat corruption, strictly abide by the Party's discipline and firmly uphold the unity of the Party, said a statement issued after the meeting presided over by Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee.

The statement called for efforts to intensify the supervision over the Party cadre selection procedures.

Moreover, efforts should be made to deepen the anti-graft work in the field of construction, and intensify the campaigns to deal with corruption risks generated by excessive government celebrations and seminars, as well as to cut public spending on government car use, the statement said.

The statement asked the Party discipline watchdog to launch inspections in the implementation of the CPC Central Committee's important decisions to ensure that the decisions are smoothly executed.

The statement also urged that preventative efforts be increased along with punishment of corruption and the strengthening of investigations of violations.

The leaders agreed at the meeting that the CCDI would convene a plenary session in January, the statement said.
