Border police in Heilongjiang province confirmed on Thursday that the location of a wild Siberian tiger is unknown after it lost its GPS collar after entering Chinese territory, Xinhua News Agency reported.

According to zoologists, the animal traveled to China from Russia in search of food or other animals for mating. The searching team has expanded the search range to a radius of about 50 kilometers.

There are several wildlife corridors in the border areas between China and Russia.

Russian sources said that the tiger entered Chinese territory because he was chasing wild boars.

Local authorities asked residents to be on the alert.
