UNITED NATIONS - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday called for peaceful solutions through dialogue to the nuclear issues in Iran and on the Korean Peninsula.

China has been working to promote a peaceful settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue through dialogue, Wang said in a speech at the general debate of the UN General Assembly.

Beijing, he said, "has played a constructive role in seeking a comprehensive, lasting and appropriate solution to the Iranian nuclear issue so as to uphold the international non-proliferation regime and peace and stability in the Middle East".

Noting that the dialogue between Iran and the six countries of Britain, China, France, Russia, the United States and Germany "has created new opportunities", he urged all relevant parties to "scale up diplomatic efforts and work for substantive progress in the dialogue at an early date".

On the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, Wang said it is China's consistent position that "a negotiated solution through dialogue is the right way" and that "the six-party talks are an effective platform" to promote the denuclearization of the peninsula.

"This year marks the 10th anniversary of the launch of the six-party talks. We hope that parties will create conditions, build consensus, work toward the same goal, and resume the talks at an early date," he said.

Wang also touched upon the Palestinian issue, which he said is at the core of the Middle East conflict.

"Guided by President Xi Jinping's four-point proposal on resolving the Palestinian issue, China will continue to work for a comprehensive, just and durable solution," he said.

Xi made the proposal in May during talks with visiting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

He suggested that the right direction to follow should be an independent Palestinian State and peaceful co-existence of Palestine and Israel and that negotiation should be taken as the only way to peace between Palestine and Israel.

The Chinese president also pointed out that principles such as "land for peace" should be firmly upheld and that the international community should provide important guarantee for progress in the peace process.
