The 21st international congress of the INTOSAI opened on Tuesday with nearly 700 delegates from some 160 countries at the opening ceremony.
Liu Jiayi, who took over the chair of the INTOSAI, said the convention mainly discussed on "national audit and national governance" and "the role of supreme audit institutions on safeguarding long-term sustainability of financial policies."
They are crucial for whether a state can effectively monitor and restrict power, fight corruption and uncover economic and social risks, said Liu, auditor-general of China's National Audit Office.
The Beijing Declaration articulates the role for the supreme audit institutions in various countries, namely to promote good governance and global governance, he said.
