A retired couple in Jiangsu province who started to travel the world in the late 1990s have published more than 200,000 words about their experiences visiting more than 20 countries, Yangtze Evening News reported on Thursday.
Yao Zhide and Ji Jingshu, from the provincial capital Nanjing, retired in 1995 and planned to travel around the world. As ordinary employees, they only received low retirement pay but saved 1,000 yuan ($160) each month to have some 10,000 yuan a year with which to travel. Their first stop was the United States where their son worked and, from then on, they went abroad every year. Their experience was published in a local newspaper and helped many others who also wanted to visit foreign countries.
