HONG KONG - CPA Australia, one of the world's largest professional accounting bodies, held its congress in Hong Kong on Friday.

A total of 300 delegates from Australia, Japan, Singapore, China's Hong Kong and China's Macau discussed issues including opportunities in China's banking industry, effective leadership in a global environment, challenges and opportunities in the mobile internet era, etc at the event.

"From history, CPA Australia has always been a pioneer in tackling practical issues and developing bold strategic moves. I hope this event can stimulate your thought and discover business inside ideas that may possibly change our lives," Peter Lee, divisional president of the Greater China of the CPA Australia, said at the opening ceremony.

Chan Ka-keung, secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of the Hong Kong government, said the event provides an excellent opportunity for professionals and business leaders to discuss opportunities and challenges "we all face today, more importantly from the Asian perspective".

He said business ties between Hong Kong and Australia are very close. As many as 80,000 Australians are living Hong Kong today and many Australian companies have established their regional headquarters in Hong Kong.

"Both Hong Kong and Australia have sophisticated financial markets, so we can do more together in pushing forward Asian financial integration", Chan said.
