An 85-year-old ex-serviceman and a 78-year-old woman finally met 62 years after writing to each other, the Qianjiang Evening News in Zhejiang province reported.
Yuan Guoguang was a Chinese soldier fighting in the Korean War in 1950 and Guo Yunyue was a teenage student in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province.
Out of admiration for Chinese soldiers fighting in the war, Guo wrote a letter for any soldier who might receive it. Yuan happened to get it.
They wrote more letters and Guo asked Yuan to work in Hangzhou after the war ended. Yuan agreed but never made it. His younger brother died in the war and he became the only son in his family.
Yuan had to return to his home city of Shaoguan, Guangdong province to look after his parents and they lost contact.
Yuang managed to find Guo with the help of several media agencies that arrange the meeting.
During their meeting in a studio of China Central Television they exchanged gifts and promised to be friends forever.
