A Shanghai taxi company has begun offering free Wi-Fi in cars and is planning to extend the service to all taxis next year, according to the Oriental Morning Post.
Currently, more than 10 vehicles with the Jinjiang Auto taxi company were outfitted with Wi-Fi devices. Passwords are not required for this service.
Jinjiang said they started a trial run of the service in October by installing Wi-Fi devices in one taxi and found more than one-third of passengers were interested in using the free service.
The company said the Wi-Fi service coverage will be extended if passengers' feedback is positive.
Ji Qin,an engineer with Jinzhen Electronic Technology Co, said that most passengers used the service to watch videos. Ji said fees might be charged for certain functions, such as video-watching but ordinary web browsing will be free.
