Ex-boyfriend helps woman for cancer treatment

A woman who had a late-stage lymphatic tumor received treatment in Guangdong province with the help of her ex-boyfriend after being refused by her family members.

Yang Damei, from Guizhou province and working in Dongguan, Guangdong province, was diagnosed with the disease after she suffered acute pain in the abdomen and high fever two years ago, reported Guangzhou Daily.

Her brother and sister refused to offer her any further help after they gave her 40,000 ($6,500) yuan.

Her friend helped her contact her ex-boyfriend, who also worked in Dongguan and got to know her via the Internet. The man went back to Guizhou after they broke up.

After he knew about Yang's disease, the man returned to Dongguan and took her to hospitals for treatment. He used his savings and sought donations online to cover the medical expenses.

Yang also received financial help from the hospital in Guangzhou and some fellow patients.

She received a stem cell transplantation treatment in Guangzhou and is running an online lingerie shop to make money to pay for the surgery.

She and her ex did not resume their relationship but now share a close friendship.
