A man in Zhangye, Gansu province, was sentenced to death for killing his parents and attempting to claim hundreds of thousands of dollars in insurance money for their deaths, Lanzhou Moring News reported on Wednesday.
Named Shen Xueyong, 29, a farmer in the city's Jing'an township, killed his parents on the night of March 25, 2012, after he had a quarrel with them earlier that day.
Later, he put their bodies on a cart and pushed it from a 3-meter-high bridge with the intention of creating a traffic accident.
Shen was arrested on March 26.
Prosecutors found that Shen bought some 20 personal accident insurance policies under his parents' names and was eligible to receive 600,000 yuan ($98,400) to 700,000 yuan if his parents were killed in an accident.
In Shen's first trial on July 11, he was sentenced to death. He appealed, and in his second trial on Nov 26, the court upheld the original judgment.
