Residents in Nanyang, Henan province, are doing all they can to support a 9-year-old girl who sells socks every evening to pay for her mother’s leukemia treatment, China.com reported on Monday.

Yao Yao needs a large amount of money to finance her mother’s bone marrow transplant.

The girl sells socks on the street with her grandfather after school to make enough money for her mother’s operation.

Her story moved the city’s residents and people bought her socks and donated money.

In the past week, Yao had received some 100,000 yuan ($16,400) by selling the socks and from donations.
