Three people were killed and several were wounded in five traffic accidents involving more than 40 cars caused by heavy fog on Tuesday in Dalian, Liaoshen Evening News reported.
The accidents happened at the Mingyang section of the Danda Expressway from Dalian to Dandong in Northeast China's Liaoning province. After the accidents, traffic authorities temporarily closed the expressway.
A photo posted on Sina Weibo, China's popular micro blog, showed three cars, in which the front of one car was severely damaged while another car rested on its side on the road's shoulder.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene. Ten injured people were sent to the nearest hospital in Zhuanghe. Three of them were discharged from hospital by Tuesday night.
On Tuesday morning, the Dalian local weather station forecasted heavy fog in some areas of Jinzhou, Pulandian, Wafangdian and Zhuanghe. Visibility in some places would reach less than 50 meters.
The meteorological department also sent early warning signals of heavy fog.
