Shanghai will further promote the use of new-energy vehicles, with more than 10,000 new-energy cars and more than 6,000 charging posts by 2015, according to the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization and the city's electric power company.

Li Yaoxin, director of the commission, said more charging posts will be installed at universities, government departments and large residential communities in Shanghai to encourage more citizens to use new-energy cars.

Zhao Yiliang, secretary of the Party committee of the State Grid Shanghai Municipal Electric Power Company, said it will accelerate the construction of facilities for new-energy cars to make Shanghai the city with the most complete system for new-energy cars in China.

The city's electric power company will also provide the installation and adjustment of charging posts for free as long as the residents hand in applications before the last day of this year. Discounts will also be offered for charging services.

SAIC Motor also said it will enhance the performance of the new-energy cars it manufactures and provide better after-sales services to ensure better experiences for drivers.

By the end of last year, Shanghai had 24 charging stations and 2,020 charging posts.
