Arsonist executed in SW China

NANNING - A man was executed on Friday for the killing of his ex-girlfriend and her unborn child when he set fire to her home in Wuzhou city in Guangxi.

Li, 19, was pregnant with the child of her new boyfriend Chen when Wei Jinming, 27, from Wuzhou in Southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, set fire to their home at 1 am on May 29, 2012, as she and Chen slept inside. Li died for her injuries on July 7, 2012. Chen suffered burns to 57 percent of his body.

Wei was given a death sentence at the first trial on Jan 31, 2013, for intentional homicide. He appealed to the higher court, but the verdict was upheld. The execution was approved by the Supreme People's Court.
