Transactions at the 11th China International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair reached 29.37 billion yuan ($4.79 billion), organizers said on Wednesday.

The fair, which was held on Oct 11-14 in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, attracted 1,762 domestic exhibitors and 560 foreign companies from 21 countries and regions, representing the auto parts, hardware, food and beverage, service, garment, leather, home appliance, chemicals, health, machinery, furniture, jewelry and medical industries. More than 66,000 buyers also visited the four-day event.

As co-host of this year's event, Mexico organized a large delegation, comprising business leaders from 174 companies, as well as government officials, looking for business opportunities in the Chinese market.

"There is a huge potential for trade cooperation between China and Mexico," said David Najera, Mexican consul general in Guangzhou.

According to Najera, Mexican companies have conducted business talks with more than 1,000 Chinese enterprises during the fair, aiming to develop trade ties and establish strategic partnerships with their Chinese counterparts.

"The fruitful result marks a good beginning for improvement of bilateral trade and investment ties," Najera said.
