Organizers of the Guangdong 21st Century Maritime Silk Road International Expo launched a cross-border e-commerce platform on Friday to smooth the progress of trade between Guangdong and countries and regions along the ancient maritime route.

The online platform, gdmsr.com, a cooperation between the commerce department of Guangdong province and e-commerce giant Alibaba Group, will provide services for trade by integrating logistics, financial services, customs, foreign exchange and quality inspection and quarantine, according to Yu Wenyong, deputy general manager of the platform's operation center.

"The platform will help boost trade for Chinese exporters by increasing trade efficiency," said Yu.

The expo, which aims to boost trade, economic, cultural and tourism cooperation between Guangdong and countries and regions along the route, opened in Dongguan, a traditional manufacturing and trade city in the Pearl River Delta.

According to Yu, a number of domestic and overseas leading e-commerce platforms including Amazon, Jingdong Mall, Tmall and Yihaodian have developed accesses to the Maritime Silk Road platform, which will allow more visits and potential business opportunities for Chinese exporters.
