An Air China plane made an emergency landing in Southwest China's Chongqing city after a bomb threat on Tuesday.

Flight CA1336 had earlier taken off from the southern city of Nanning bound for Beijing and the airline confirmed that emergency measures were put into action after a passenger claimed there were explosives on board.

As of 5 pm, three passengers were taken away by police for questioning. The remaining passengers continued the journey on to Beijing after a security check.

Pictures of police and ambulances at Jiangbei airport in Chongqing appeared on Sina Weibo, a Twitter-like social networking site and the flight continued to Beijing after a thorough security check.
