The Chief Executive election panel of Macao Special Administrative Region has announced that Chui Sai On was the winner of the election. China's Xinhua News Agency says 297 of the 300-member election committee took part in Sunday's voting.
The 52-year-old was the only candidate for the post. Chui was the SAR government's secretary for social affairs and culture for the past ten years. He quit his office in May to run for the SAR's top job.
During his campaign, Chui proposed to create more jobs for locals through a series of measures including pouring more public investment into infrastructure and providing more training opportunities to the unemployed. He also says he will focus on improving the quality of local people's lives, reforming the SAR government and enhancing the transparency of policy-making.
