BEIJING - The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the armed police deployed to quake zone have saved more than 1,000 survivors from rubble in Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China's Qinghai Province, an official with China Earthquake Administration said Thursday.
The officers and soldiers had also retrieved 107 remains of the people killed in Wednesday's quake in Yushu, and treated thousands of the injured, said Miao while addressing a press conference held by the State Council.
A 7.1-magnitude quake jolted the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu early on Wednesday, leaving 617 dead, 9,110 injured and 313 missing. The quake also toppled 15,000 residential buildings and forced 100,000 residents to be evacuated.
