Miao Chonggang, deputy director of quake relief and emergency response department with China Earthquake Administration, said more than 6,000 PLA and armed police officers and soldiers had been sent to help with the rescue operations in the quake zone.

The officers and soldiers had also retrieved 107 remains of the people killed in Wednesday's quake in Yushu, and treated thousands of the injured, said Miao while addressing a press conference held by the State Council.

A 7.1-magnitude quake jolted the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu early on Wednesday, leaving 617 dead, 9,110 injured and 313 missing. The quake also toppled 15,000 residential buildings and forced 100,000 residents to be evacuated.
