Law and order in the Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture after the earthquake can be guaranteed, said Fan Yulong, chief of staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army in Yushu, in an exclusive interview with China Daily.

Fan said the army had received orders to maintain social stability in the disaster-stricken area.

But he did not rule out possibility of small-scale looting of goods. "It happens anywhere that is struck by huge disaster," he said. "But I firmly believe that no violence will occur because the rescue work goes well and the people here are kind."
