Harsh snowstorms have hit disaster relief supplies after a number of vehicles overturned while on their way to quake-hit Yushu prefecture of Qinghai province.

Three hours of heavy snow dropped on the section of the 214 National Highway from Huashi Gorge to Bayan Har mountains, a transportation artery running from the provincial capital Xining to quake epicenter Yushu.

The local traffic department and weather broadcast bureau are to strengthen patrols on the highway section to ensure the safety of vehicles transporting relief materials in a blizzard attack.

Snow, rain and strong wind, coupled with a drop in temperature, will descend on quake-hit Yushu in the coming days, posing a new threat for survivors and rescuers, according to the latest weather forecast.
