Yardrok Yutso Lake

Nine holy lakes in Tibet

Yardrok Yutso Lake is known for having the most beautiful water in the world. In Tibetan, "Yar" means above, "Drok" is pasture, "Yu" is jade, and "Tso" is Lake. "Above the Pasture of Jade Lake" invokes images of "scattered turquoise goddess earrings" in the minds of Tibetan people.

Yardrok Yutso's body winds up through the hills more than 130 kilometers. Despite the fact that its angles do not reveal a whole picture, Yardrok Yutso can only be seen from a very high point or from map. Yardrok Yutso's likeness to earrings can be seen from this vantage point- the lake sits like earrings embedded above the mountain as an ear. The varying rays of sunlight at different times reveal the rich levels of blue, which appear and fade almost like a dream.
