In her latest work, As Seen 2011: Notable Artworks by Chinese Artists, Karen Smith chronicles artworks by 40 Chinese artists to capture the essence of the art scene, which has seen explosive growth over the past few decades.
A veteran curator and leading art critic, Smith has lived in China since 1992 and published several monographs on leading Chinese artists.
For As Seen, Smith makes selections base on simple criteria - that is, they must be great artworks by Chinese artists, including those from Hong Kong, Taiwan and overseas.
To avoid being a mere collection of art exhibitions, Smith selects memorable pieces in the full-color book and introduces them with her expertise and insight.
She also introduces new faces and records new trends on the scene.
The book is available in both English (published by Commercial Press) and Chinese (published by Beijing World Publishing Corp) versions.
