A cappella group to tour
The King's Singers, a British a cappella vocal ensemble, is coming to Guangzhou with their latest album The Great American Songbook. The group was founded in 1968 and named after King's College in Cambridge. Onstage there are only six gentlemen-two counter-tenors, one tenor, two baritones and one bass-but they can sound like a mixed choir accompanied by an orchestra. The repertoire of the concert on May 18 encompasses classics in the 20th century of diverse styles from Jazz to Broadway musicals. The group's China tour also includes performances in Beijing (May 17), Shanghai (May 20) and Hong Kong (May 23-24).
8 pm, May 18. Symphony Hall, Xinghai Concert Hall, 33 Qingbo Road, Ersha Island, Yuexiu district. 400-108-8808.
