Hike

Triangle Hike and Silver Pagodas

Date: Oct 12-8 am

Venue: Beijing Hikers, Rm 4102, 4/F, Bldg. A, Galaxy Building, 10 Jiuxianqiao Zhong Road

Price: 380 yuan

See the sights of the countryside on this nice-and-easy hike. The hike starts off with a stroll down a valley, and then we head into the rolling hills of Huairou District. We follow farm trails and roads through valleys and orchards before heading up a rocky trail to an old pine tree that is a local landmark. From the pine we continue, passing through a small village and up a road that leads past reservoirs and chestnut orchards on the way out to the main road. Another 30 minutes of walking will take us over to the Silver Pagodas, a set of five well-preserved 600-year-old pagodas that are all that remains of a big Buddhist temple. After a good look about the pagodas, we'll move on to a local restaurant for a big meal before heading back to the city.

Art

Xenia Hausner

Date: Oct 11-All day

Venue: Today Art Museum in Beijijng

Price: Free

West and East: the Austrian painter Xenia Hausner has been exploring this exciting theme in the contemporary globalized world. In 20 medium-to large-sized works she plays with mutual perceptions in a way that is as subtle as it is profound. What at first glance seems to be a snapshot of daily life is in reality a multiply refracted and reflected perception of life in a world in which cultures are intertwined. This is the third station in a series of solo shows of the artist's works in China and follows critically acclaimed exhibitions in Hong Kong (June) and Shanghai (2011).
