A movie based on the life of late Chinese cartoonist Xiang Yao, who died of cancer in 2012, is set for release in August.

"Go Away Mr. Tumor" is based on Xiang's online comic strip under the penname of "Xiong Dun."

The film is directed by Han Yan, and stars actress Bai Baihe and actor Daniel Wu.

The film cost around $6 million to produce, and Daniel Wu has reportedly lowered his salary requirements to join the film as his mother also fought cancer.

Xiang was the author of several successful comic books on teenage love, weight-loss, living the single life and her lifelong idol Michael Jackson.

Many of her stories were based on her own life experiences.

She died after losing her battle with a malignant tumor at age 30.

"Go Away Mr. Tumor" will hit Chinese theatres on Aug 13.
