The English version of Splendid Chinese Culture (www.chiculture.net), an encyclopedic website providing information on the country’s rich traditions, will be available for English speakers by the end of 2015. Organizers launched the translation project of the website on March 17.
The website contains more than 300 topics related to Chinese culture organized into 18 categories, covering history, literature, arts and society. The content was compiled and edited with the consultation of around 1,000 scholars; many of them are the top experts in their fields, such as renowned linguist Ji Xianlin and historian Ge Jianxiong.
The translation of the website will be carried out by Beijing Chinese-Foreign Translation & Information, a company under the China International Publishing Group and one of China’s major publishers that translates Chinese into foreign languages.
The current website was launched in 2000 by The Academy of Chinese Studies, a Hong Kong-based non-profit organization, and won the best-content award under the category of e-culture at the United Nations World Summit on Information Society in 2003. The website claims to have more than 50 million users.
