East-West fusion

As a representative of Chinese new ink, Wang Hao's show Effusive Colors and Floating Fragrance at Today Art Museum tries to break the boundary between the East and West. The artist combines abstract paintings from the West and yixiang (philosophy) from the East to create a new kind of painting. Wang, 46, learned oil panting from his father and turned to colored ink paintings several years ago.

10 am-6 pm, through April 18. Today Art Museum, 32 Baiziwan Road, Chaoyang district. 010-5876-0600.

Sichuan province, in China's Southwest, has been a source of inspiration for famous painters like Huang Quan and Zhang Daqian. The area's magnificent mountains and rivers have been depicted in their works. About 110 paintings by 11 Chinese artists from Sichuan are now on display in the city. The show is part of New China Artists, a project initiated by China National Academy of Painting, to document China's great ink artists born after 1949.
