Greek embassy holds Open Day in Beijing

Open Day with Greek tourism as its theme was held at the Embassy of Greece in Beijing on May 7.

Students from the Association of Student International Communication (ASIC) of Tsinghua University participated in the event.

The function began with a welcome by Elisabeth Fotiadou, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Greece in Beijing, who spoke on travel and holiday culture in Greece.

Fotiadou said that although many people know Greece as the cradle of western civilization with classic architecture, few people have noticed the efforts made by the Greek government to safeguard it history. Many museums combine ancient elements with modern ones.

The students then watched short videos on Greek islands and other places of mainland Greece.

They discussed issues, such as visa process, safety concern and architecture innovation, with Martinos Mandalidis, First Secretary of the Embassy of Greece in Beijing.

He said that Chinese visitors can get a tourist visa within five working days, adding that the best time to travel was from May to June. Visitors can go to well-known Rhodes or smaller islands for fun. During summer, visitors can not only enjoy the sunshine but also meet millions of tourists who visit the country.

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-EU diplomatic relations, the delegation of the European Union to China and participating embassies of EU Member States in Beijing held a series of events on the "EU Open Days for Young People".

Young Chinese students and foreigners are invited to EU embassies to take part in a variety of cultural events such as watching movies, tasting western food and attending lectures from April to June.
