Chiten, meaning "locus" or "point", is a theater company headed by Japanese director Motoi Miura. In June, Chiten will present Bertolt Brecht’s Fatzer at Penghao Theater in Beijing, as part of Beijing Nanluoguxiang Performing Arts Festival. Chiten premiered the show in Japan in 2013. Based on the unfinished work by the German playwright Brecht, which is a long 500 pages of verse and notes, Chiten's staging utilized the version edited by Heiner Muller, Downfall of the Egoist Johann Fatzer, and employed cacophonous electronic music with resonating gunshots and dying screams that intermix with the actors' voices to create a dynamic yet tense atmosphere. Since its premiere it has been widely recognized as one of Chiten’s most innovative works and found a popular following among younger audiences.
