Overseas cultural centers become highlight
Xie Jinying, the Head of Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the ministry, told journalists at the conference that frequent activities were held in overseas Chinese culture centers which have successfully attracted locals.
According to Xie, in the first half of the year, the ministry cooperated with provincial cultural institutions to promote its "Going Out"strategy. Qinghai Cultural Week, Shandong Cultural Week and Guizhou Cultural Week were successively held in Chinese cultural centers in Nigeria, Seoul, Bangkok and Moscow.
Meanwhile, the overseas cultural centers recommended more books in the past six months on Chinese politics, economy, culture, and society than before, and organized more reading activities in different countries.
In addition, overseas cultural centers held physical activities along with Chinese cultural weeks. In Mauritius, Benin, Malta and Berlin, the cultural centers ran Weiqi (the game of go) tournaments and Tai-chi as well as Chinese Kung Fu.
