A Peking Opera Tour kicked off in Cape Town on Monday, as one of the many Year of China in South Africa celebrations taking place this year. The first performance of the tour, which is being led by the Tianjin Delegation Peking Opera Theatre, entertained almost 600 lovers of Chinese culture with a repertoire of traditional classics.
Performed by the Tianjin Peking Opera Theatre, hundreds of locals came for the event.
The performance saw some of the classics of Peking Opera performed, like Making Havoc in Heaven, At the Crossroads, and Qui Jang River.
The show brought together the unique elements of the art form like music, dialogue, mime, acrobatics, martial arts, and dance.
It was an experience to remember, not only for audience members but for the cast as well.
Peking Opera is one of the most well-known art forms out of China. And has a history that spans 200 years.
The special Cape Town performance is part of the Year of China in South Africa celebrations; and was organised by the Ministry of Culture in China, South Africa's Department of Arts and Culture - as well as the embassies of both nations. But that's not all.
This special performance will next head to the coastal city of Durban - to reach even more people.
