A crowd-funding activity for Paper culture along the Silk Road, a video series exploring the origin and development of Chinese papermaking technology, has been launched at the Yanjiyou Bookstore in Beijing on July 25, 2015.

At the activity, some guests and experts shared their stories and research related to the ancient methods of papermaking.

For example, Prof. Liu Renqing elaborated on the origins and development of Chinese papermaking. Chinese contemporary artist Wang Yiqiong and Yu Li created art on hand-made paper in a demonstration for the audience.

The project, initiated by Great Seed Inc, will last for 15 days from late August to early September and explore five locations of ancient papermaking in Yunnan, Guizhou, and Hunan.

The video series focuses on the traditional craftsmanship of Chinese papermaking, the role and preservation of ancient papermaking technology in the digital age, as well as the innovation and artistry of hand-made paper.

The video series, which will consist of four episodes in Chinese and English, is going to be broadcasted both in China and abroad through online and offline platforms.

Great Seed is a start-up aiming to build an online community to preserve the world's intangible cultural heritage.
