Star Wars: The Force Awakens, ruled the box office in the week ending Jan 10, earning 344.3 million yuan (US$52.3 million ) after opening on Jan 9.
Domestic thriller Detective Chinatown was a respectable No. 2 in the week, pulling in 207.9 million yuan, China Film News reported on Sunday. The film opened on Dec 31.
Sherlock: The Abominable Bride came in third, earning 134.4 million yuan after opening on Jan 4.
Fourth place went to Mr. Six, a domestic action-thriller that took 128.5 million yuan in the week. The film, which stars famed director Feng Xiaogang, was released on Dec 24.
Rounding out the top five was Mojin: The Lost Legend, a domestic action-fantasy, with 82.7 million yuan. It opened on Dec 18.
