Wilhelm Wagner's life was characterized by political exile, turbulent love affairs, poverty and repeated flight from his creditors. Although his writings on music are controversy, his ideas can be traced in many of the arts throughout the 20th century. Wagner wrote 14 operas in his lifetime. From Der Fliegende Hollander to Parsifal, these 10 operas represent musically a continuing development of the composer's style. And in his mid-stage output, Tannhauser was one of his three 'romantic operas' reinforced his reputation. Musically, Tannhauser Overture is frequently performed as a separate item in orchestral concerts.

My Fair Lady is a musical based on George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. The story concerns Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins, a phoneticist, so that she may pass as a lady. The original Broadway, London and film versions all starred Rex Harrison.
