“The book is an exploration to find a better and more proficient way to promote Chinese culture in the world. The application of big data and marketing contributed to the success of the book,” Zhou said.

Wu Kejian from the Yellow Crane Tower Park said German versions of Chinese fairy tales were rare.

“We decided to illustrate the fairy tale about the tower and make it easier for German people to understand traditional Chinese culture,” Wu added.

Two German children said they fancied the dancing crane in the book and before reading this story, they only knew of the panda from the film Kung Fu Panda.

The story will be performed on stage by German artists and performers in the future.

2016 marks the cultural exchange year between Chinese and German adolescents. The Münster government hopes the book can help boost cultural exchanges between the two nations and teach German children more about Chinese culture.
