The dance of Kazakhs: Soul of the nomadic life
With the passing of time, the pasture and grassland for some nomadic people may be gone, but the soul of nomadic life may remain in their life.
In the southern suburb of Urumqi in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, is a settlement for the Kazakhs. As the sun sets, Kazakhs in the city light a bonfire with the smell of milk tea all around and singing filling the air, and dance to show their ethnic customs. The dance of Eid al-Fitr, in the eyes of the Kazakhs, is not just for folk display, but a fine official performance. It expresses the nomadic folklore perfectly. Their persistence in tradition makes the nomadic life durable and long-lasting.
