Tibet has a certain x-factor, which arouses much curiosity. To learn more about its culture, visit Guangdong Museum where an exhibition on various aspects of the roof of the world is ongoing.

Visitors can view florid Tibetan attire, sophisticated metal ware, literature written on wood, rocks and animal skins, as well as Buddha statues.

Those interested in thangka (hand-painted silk with embroidery) could get a firsthand explanation from Tibetan artists. Thangka paintings are said to embody Tibet's history, politics and culture. They sometimes are even regarded as encyclopedias of Tibet.

A special lecture on appreciating thangka will be held from 3 to 4:30 pm on May 13.

Until June 28 (closed on Mondays). Halls 1 and 2, Third Floor, Guangdong Museum, 2 Zhujiang Donglu, Zhujiang New Town, Tianhe district, Guangzhou. 020-3804-6886.
