More than 40 experts from various fields of the cultural industry gathered on Wednesday in Beijing to discuss the feasibility of building a cultural complex on Shanghai's Chongming Island.

The complex, which would be called Ocean Cube, is planned as a hub for the Chinese cultural and creative industry.

It would cover an area of 10.25 square kilometers, consisting of one core area, three clusters, eight theme parks and six support buildings.

The core area would be a trade center for cultural creative products and copyrights. The three clusters would be centers for art institutes, film and TV, and original arts. The eight theme parks would feature ethnic culture, art, fashion, creative agriculture, cartoons, sports, leisure and music.

Once built, the project would fetch annual revenue of 70 billion yuan ($11 billion), and employ 50,000 to 70,000 people.
